vegetable gardening guide uf

Shan shui (Chinese for landscape) is the Chinese name. This means "mountains & water". These two elements are complementary and contrast each other. Rock is the skeleton and water is calm, yielding water. Chinese gardens usually have trees and plants which change with the seasons. This provides the gardener with aromas, sounds and tastes. The landscape is often surrounded by water. The Chinese are known to have some of the most beautiful gardens in the world, and a Chinese garden is no different.

Many plants in a Chinese garden have symbolic significance. The Chinese value bamboo is a type of bamboo that bends in wind but doesn't break. This suggests an honorable man. Another favorite is also the orchid. The scent of this flower is associated with the true gentleman. The peony symbolizes elegance and fecundity. Chrysanthemum (the oldest cultivated flower in China) is associated with autumn. Plants are often referred to as Latin names by the Chinese because they have a spiritual approach.

Even though Chinese gardens may be less open than their Western counterparts in this regard, they are still full of poetry. The combination trees, plants, water and poetry is a beautiful way of expressing nature and the poetic possibility that it offers. Understanding the philosophy and philosophies that underlie these artistic choices is essential. They are significant and meaningful to the Chinese society.

It is symbolic that the Chinese use rocks in their gardens. The mythological Isles of the Immortals are centred on the mountains, which represent stability and virtue. It is no surprise that the mountain serves as the centerpiece of Chinese gardens. The mountain's plants are selected based upon their texture, color, fragrance, and other characteristics. Although the rockery is an important part Chinese gardens, other functions can be performed by the plants in the garden.

Another important component of a Chinese backyard is the Zhai or studio. This is a small yard that can be used for self-cultivation. It is peaceful, serene, and conducive for learning. To add to the beauty of the environment, walls are often decorated using figures. Typical features of a Chinese garden include the four directions pavilion, a rock garden, and a lotus pond. A Zhai is often built alongside a water garden so that the view is unobstructed by any structures.

Although there aren't any specific guidelines for building a Chinese garden or landscaping, there is one thing that the Chinese share: a common design element. Borrowed landscaping refers to any elements found outside the garden walls. The borrowed scenery is often an unexpected addition that most visitors don't even consider looking at. But these elements of a Chinese garden are often intentional and often represent the artist's intent. The Chinese believe that nature is the best inspiration.

How To

Organic fertilizers are available for garden use

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers include chemicals used in industrial processes. They are widely used in agriculture because they provide nutrients to plants quickly and efficiently without requiring laborious preparation methods. However, synthetic fertilizers pose risks to human health and the environment. In addition, they require large amounts of energy and water to produce. Many synthetic fertilizers are also harmful to groundwater and water surface because of runoff. This pollution is both harmful to wildlife as well as humans.

There are many kinds of organic fertilizers.

* Manure is produced when livestock eat nitrogen-rich foods (a plant nutrient). It is made up of bacteria and enzymes, which break down the waste into simpler compounds that can be absorbed easily by plants.

* Compost - A mixture of grass clippings from the lawn, decaying leaves, vegetable scraps, and animal dung. It is rich with nitrogen, phosphorus. potassium, calcium. magnesium. sulfur. iron. copper. manganese. molybdenum. chlorine. and carbon. It is highly porous so it can retain moisture well and release nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion – A liquid product derived from fish oils. It can dissolve oils and fats, similar to soap. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It is rich in vitamins A, C and iodine as well as iron.

* Guano is the excrement of seabirds and bats. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, and carbon.

* Blood Meal: The remains of animal carcasses. It is rich with protein, making it useful for feeding poultry or other animals. It also contains trace minerals, phosphorus and potassium.

Combine equal parts of compost, manure and/or fish-emulsion to make organic fertilizer. Mix well. You can substitute one with another if you don't have access to all three ingredients. If you only have the fish-emulsion you can substitute one with another.

Spread the fertilizer evenly on the soil with a shovel, or tiller. The fertilizer should be about 1/4 cup per square foot. You will need to add more fertilizer every two weeks until you see signs of new growth.
