FAQ

Do I need any special equipment?

It's not true. A shovel, trowel and watering container are all you need.

Can I plant fruit trees in pots

Yes! Fruit trees can be grown in pots if you're short on space. Ensure your pot has drainage holes so excess moisture won't rot the tree. Make sure the pot is deep enough for the root ball to be held. This will keep the tree from becoming stressed.

Can I grow vegetables inside?

Yes, you can grow vegetables indoors during winter. You will need a greenhouse or grow lighting. Before purchasing a greenhouse or grow lights, be sure to consult the local laws.

What vegetables do you recommend growing together?

It is possible to grow tomatoes and peppers together, as they like the same soil conditions and temperatures. They can complement each other because tomatoes require heat to mature, and peppers require lower temperatures for their optimal flavor. To grow them together, you can start seeds indoors around six weeks before planting. Once the weather gets warmer, transplant your pepper and tomato plants outdoors.

What is your favorite vegetable garden layout?

Your location will determine the best layout for your vegetable garden. You should plant vegetables together if you live in a city. For maximum yield, however, it is best to space your plants if you are in a rural area.

Which seeds can be planted indoors?

Tomato seeds are the best choice for starting indoors. Tomatoes are easy to grow, and they produce fruit all year round. When growing tomatoes in pots, be careful when transplanting them into the ground. The soil could dry out if you plant too early. This could lead to root rot. Also, be aware of diseases such as bacterial wilt, which can kill plants quickly.

How To

Use organic fertilizers in your garden

Organic fertilizers are made of natural substances like manure, compost and fish emulsion. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers contain chemicals used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. Synthetic fertilizers are dangerous for the environment as well as human health. They also require large amounts energy and water to make. Moreover, many synthetic fertilizers pollute groundwater and surface waters due to runoff. This pollution is harmful to wildlife and humans.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure is a product of livestock eating nitrogen-rich food (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost is a mixture from vegetable scraps, grass clippings and decaying leaves. It is rich with nitrogen, phosphorus. potassium, calcium. magnesium. sulfur. iron. copper. manganese. molybdenum. chlorine. and carbon. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion is a liquid product made from fish oil. It works similarly to soap in that it dissolves oils and fats. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It's a great source of vitamins A and C as well as iodine and iron.

* Guano is excrement from amphibians, seabirds, bats and reptiles. It contains nitrogen, sulfur, chloride and carbon.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It contains protein, which makes it useful for feeding poultry and other animals. It also contains trace minerals, phosphorus and potassium.

For organic fertilizer mix equal amounts of manure, compost and/or fishemulsion. Mix well. If you don’t possess all three ingredients you can substitute one for the other. If you have only access to the fish oil emulsion, then you can combine 1 part fish emulsion and 2 parts compost.

Apply the fertilizer by spreading it evenly using a tiller or shovel. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. You will need to add more fertilizer every two weeks until you see signs of new growth.
