Garden Plans For Full Sun - A No Fuss Garden Design Guide

garden plans for full sun

You don't always have to choose a sunny garden in order to create a beautiful landscape. For those who enjoy the sun and are looking to find a unique spot to grow their plants, there are several garden plans that can be used for full sunlight. Full sun requires 6 hours per day for perennials, while plants that thrive in partial shade require less. Decide which plants will thrive best in full sun and which will require a bit of shade.

Plants that love full sun, especially tropical plants, can provide the perfect backdrop for a garden. You might also consider pluerias, which are South African natives. Bird of paradise is a clump-forming, sun-loving plant, and the evergreen canna flower is another option. To grow fragrant, low-maintenance herbs, such as rosemary, full sun is possible in addition to tropicals.

Before you begin planning the size of your garden, it is important to plan. It's a good idea to sketch out the space, noting the types of plants you want to grow. Some plants grow well together, so be sure to use companion planting. Check out the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service list of compatible plants and non-compatible species to find out what plants go well together. Avoid planting the same plant more than once a year by rotating your plants.

Purple fountain grass and lantana can thrive in full sun. Hummingbirds love their brightly colored flowers. Hutten & Co. Land and Shore, a landscaping firm, recommends planting these flowers in full sunshine. These perennial beauties can be planted in pots on a sunny deck or patio. Many flowers love full sun including heat-resistant annuals, flowering shrubs, and other plants that add texture to flower beds.

Measure the garden to create a pleasing visual garden. The layout should be drawn to scale. You will also need to locate any existing plants. You should also take into consideration the mature size of your plants before choosing the right spot. It is a good idea to place a gardenhose in the space to help you visualize the shape of the garden. It is a good idea to group plants together in order to mark key points. You can also group plants based on their heights, such a four, five, or even seven.

After measuring your space and planning the layout, you'll need to draw the borders. To demarcate boundaries or draw curved planting beds, you can use stakes or string lines. Spray paint the boundaries to make it easier for future movement. You should also take care of the soil. It will pay off! You will be proud to show off your unique, beautiful landscape.

How To

How to grow basil

Basil is one of your most versatile herbs. Basil is great to add flavor to dishes, sauces or pastas. Here are some ways to grow basil indoors.

  1. You should choose carefully where to place your basil. Basil is an evergreen plant. If it's not located in the right area, it will only last one season. It can tolerate partial shade but prefers full sun. If you plan to grow it outside, make sure there is good air circulation.
  2. Plant the seeds. Basil seeds should be planted at least two weeks before the last frost date. Place the seeds 1/2 inch deep into small pots containing potting mix. Cover the pots with clear plastic wrap and keep the pots in a warm area out of direct sunlight. Germination takes approximately ten days. Once they are germinated, transfer them to a protected area where the temperatures are at 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. When the seedlings reach maturity, you can transplant them. Remove the plastic wrap and transplant the seedlings into larger containers. Each container should be filled with potting mix. To help remove excess moisture, add gravel or pebbles. Add more potting mixes as necessary. The containers should be placed in a sunny location or under indirect lighting. The plants should be misted daily to prevent them from wilting.
  4. After the danger of frost has passed, apply a thick layer of mulch over the top of the plants. This will protect them against cold weather and reduce water losses.
  5. Regularly water the plants. Basil needs to be hydrated regularly to ensure its survival. A rain gauge can be used to measure how much water plants need. A timer can be used to shut off the irrigation system when it is dry.
  6. Take your basil out at the peak of its life. Pick leaves frequently to encourage bushier growth.
  7. Use paper towels or screens to dry the leaves. Dry the leaves in glass jars and bags in the fridge.
